It is the first novel Of Jeffrey Archer. After a long time I read an English novel. I was into Kafkaesque kind of readings for sometime and I was like a cat on a hot tin roof in recent times. There were moments in this novel which gave me heebie-jeebies. I just managed to complete this standing on my head.

I was told that Archer almost had this kind of bankrupt situation in his life and it was the inspiration. I just wonder how come anyone can think of writing a novel when he was bankrupted. What Next ? I picked Kane and Abel this time. I just think whether that I can finish this soon.

After a long time we are planning for a stag party. Believe me, it is not a storm in a teacup and we are not lackadaisical either this time. It was like traveling from down earth to sun. I really don't know what else a good writer can write. He wrote about the old stories of the earth. I is believed that a monkey and crocodile story would be the oldest story fo the world. I just googled and got this picture.

What are the reactions from the stolen house people? You must read to know about that. They might not lock the house and the lights be switched on at that particular day after the stealing. We can see many people giving advices as how to find out the thief. The Poojas carried out in Ganges of Banaras. There are some strange Poojas involving dead bodies which will be illegally taken from Ganges. The reactions of a bachelor tenant in Chennai who is changing his house often. There are lot more stuff to take to our heart like Therukoothu, Jesus, city life od older days etc.

I read one more book named பூமியின் பாதி வயது by A.Muthulingam. He is a Srilankan Tamilian and now lives in Canada. I first read the article about this book in Thinnai by Jeyamohan. He was quoting the author as popular one and joining the list of Kalki and Sujatha. I felt is true to a very good extent. The book contains the list of essays which comprises of his thoughts, readings, experiences and translations etc. as he quotes in the index. The first article is about Deepa Metha's Water. He is very much critical on that film. He is quoting beautifully that the Water is not allowed to flow freely as it should be by its nature.

I fee that this is nothing to write home about. We all know that african countries are facing a very big malnourishment problem. But we indian, going to top the best economies in the world sooner or later as they say, assume that our children are very well nourished. But the truth says something else. Around 30 countries out of 37 countries in sahara countries report lower levels of child malnutrition than india.47% of indian children below three years are malnourished agianst the 30% malnutrition in sahara african countries.Madya Pradesh, Bihar and orissa tops the list in the malnutrition rates in the world.

No need to mention the population of these three states so the numbers will be on the worse side again.

We always assume that the reasons may be the per capita income, inequality of distribution of icome, and income poverty. But the experts not only renounces these but call these things as only myths. Our indians some time say that international standards of measuring the malnutrition is not suitable for indian standard. That means our indian children will do no grow normally as the other country children. But in india the well fed children grow normally as the aduately fed other country children. So the measuring standards are correct. The food production in india through agriculture is definitely enough to avoid malnutrition.

The malnutrition among indian children starts with low birth weights. It necessarily means that they get malnourished in the womb. The other serious reason is the poor nutrition status of women. We can still dig here for more facts. The early age of women marraige is also a cause for this. Then comes to our freedom of women. The experts and their data says that the malnutrition is better where women enjoys greater freedoms and autonomy. The other factor is the care of the child. Failure to feed supplementary foods at the appropriate ime leads to malnutrition. In addition to breastmilk, solid and mushy foods needed for a well nutrioned child from the fourth month of birth.Proper education is also a must thing to avoid malnutrition.

The need of the time is look into the reasons correctly and solve them. We defintely have to solve this worst neglected form of human deprivation. We have mountains of food at one side but still this issue is more than mountain size.Nutritional deficiencies affect the lives of Indians at different ages.In battling against "so old a story" of deprivation and hunger, we also have to take note of the fact that the policy problems can take forms that are "somehow always new". We need to address issues of economic growth and distribution, of healthcare and basic education, and the very old problem of gender bias and neglect of women’s health.

Tamil writer Charu criticizes the malnutrition in his konal pages with his style. He and his friend went to some school nearby Dindivanam in Tamilnadu. Students talk about their ambition of becoming doctors and engineers. Charu asked his friend innocentaly what is need for 7th or 8th grade students to talk about them now.His friend replies that you should not tease the poverty of india. The reason is that students are actually 12th grade students. So malnutrition is omnipresent in india.

Greater Hyderabad

I was traveling to office in Setwin Service like I always do. But I could see fleet of Police vehicles (and policemen) at every other bus stop and signals these days. These are a far reaching repercussion caused by the bomb blasts in the city. It’s been almost four months since I came to Hyderabad. Just four days after my arrival to this greater city, a bomb was blown in Mecca Masjid. Though it didn’t create any big reactions, the recent blasts at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat did create some repercussions. It is becoming a customary to heard words like shocking, Condemn, condolence, Barbarism, Cowardice and etc.

There was not a single incident of abnormal life other than those two areas thanks to the courage of people in Hyderabad. It is really paining and happy to see that People are living a life in a world where they themselves forget the value of their life and are not taken aback by these bomb blasts. What is the purpose behind these bomb blasts? I asked this question when I was speaking with Mr. Manushyaputhran of Uyirmmai. The foreign fund providers need to know that these guys are active enough to do whatever they want and whenever they want. So it is merely a checking activity. It was really embarrassing to hear this. But I certainly feel that how gruesome if it is true.

So in the so called developed world the criminals are far ahead in technology application and the government is far behind. Police found that the substance used in the two bombs was an ammonium nitrate-based emulsifier, Neogel-90, manufactured by Amin Explosives of Nagpur. This improvised explosive device was filled with Neogel-90 and a large number of metal balls to cause maximum damage. The balls can go to a distance of about 8000 meters. The alarm mechanism comprising a clock fitted with a nine-volt battery was to set off the detonator, which, in turn, was to blast the Neogel-90.

The government administration is really poor in handling things in Hyderabad. Chief Minister wants to create by coming to the accident spot immediately. Is that what the Hyderbadis expecting from a state government. There was an incident last Sunday which was epitome of the bad administration. There was a collapse of flyover due to pillar imbalance. The pre moulded concretes fell down on the cars and people. The CM came to that place with in an hour and the vehicles stopped in all directions as a counter action. Though the hospital is near to the accident spot, none of the ambulance can move since all the roads blocked by vehicles, thanks to the CM security team.

INDIA SHINING * Conditions Apply

India is really shining in Indian news Medias and cities. In villages, India is on its last legs. By 2020, villages will go to meet their maker and So India is a definite super power. We, the so called Professionals won’t work for peanuts. But people in factual India don’t even get peanuts for their work. But this is not the end of the story.

I’m not here to talk with volumes of reports and surveys as Mr.Karan Thapar.
My village is a small Indian village which dependent mainly on farming. The farmers became jokers in the new era of India. Well, they are also laid their hands to develop India.

The total agriculture land in my village was around 300 acres. People got their way to develop them. More than 200 acres have been sold out as plots now. The remaining is on queue for approval of village administration. The land rate was between Rs.600/- to Rs.2, 000/- per Cent (436 Sq. Feet) during 2004 and 2005. But the current rate is between Rs.20, 000/- to Rs.40, 000/-.And they are all sold out as hot cakes.

There are people who don’t want to sell lands. But they are not into farming either. They do have pump sets and they sell their pumped water. They are the entrepreneurs of the emerging water business. Now the lands are untouched for more than a year. Water is available for at least 2 crops a year. But the land is not in the hands of my villagers. Some people don’t even know the people to whom they sold their lands. So we have got the 3rd opportunity to survive in the face of real estate agents. So we are all into the making of shining India.

The ponds and lakes are awaiting their chance!

I Will Miss You, Bangalore

I will definitely miss you...

Its been almost 3 years since i come to bangalore...I was started to bangalore when i heard from my friends that there is a job fair at mount carmel college.I unexpectedly started from chennai and the same day i board myself to Bangalore. It was not in my any part of the mind that it will make me to stay these long days, months and years...

I was roving in JP nagar for first 3 months..Then i changed my place to Honga Sandra near bommanahalli...My third house happened to be in koramangala 8th block..I will never fail to remember those days..It is the house which precipitated me to go to landmark every weekend..I almost bought all of my sandilyan novels when i was staying there..I can't forget my days with sathish,Suresh,Yuva, Suresh and Raji...I had a amusing birthday celebration there..

Then we came to NG Palya where i felt some kind of solitariness as except senthil nobody came here with us from our old house...I definitely had very good days..But somehow my reading habit had lessened a bit..But i started reading some very good tamil novels and self improvement books...Prem gave me a great company in reading..He has been a great stimulating and a vivacious person...

I will miss my weekend cricket matches..

Bid adieu for now....

எஙக வீட்டு நூலகம்

Just wanted to list the books which i have in my home.good..i have a very good collection.

All the project work has come to conclusion. I wanted write so many things in this time. Whenever I bumped myself into a news, nice article, a song, a movie, and what not. One month is so much to gather and write. But I always wanted to forget to post. Nowadays I wanted to read more instead of scribe. It is also a wandering. From soccer to fuel price, from Ayyangarkulam Gangai amman to sabari malai Ayyappan.

So the soccer euphoria is over at last. I’m dejected. I almost pulled myself back from the worldcup before it was over. I wanted to see the samba again or somebody from African to have the final say. Somehow I couldn’t say to myself that it’s just a sport. I was astonished by another distinctive success of Brazilia. I read an article about the Itaipu Dam. I feel sorry for my favourite Roberto Carlos Da Silva. Anyway it was Viva Italia finally. Zizou is on news as expected but for a different reason. Reminisces of 1998 final Zinedine Yazid Zidane is still there somewhere in my memories.

I could read three books last month. Lance Armstrong’s Its Not About the Bike, My Journey Back to Life, Paulo Cohelo’s Devil and Miss Prym and Fifth Mountain. I was wondering whether Kamalahasan got his dialogue ‘kadavul paadhi mirugam paathi, kalandhu seidha kalavai naan’ from Devil and Miss prym. I have miles to go before I understand everything in paulo’s creations.

I saw the song “En Vaanilae ore vennilaa..” from Johnny.A perfect visual treat by mahendran and co blended with mesmerizing Jency’s voice and Raja’s scoring.
Just sharing it with you..

A Busy Week Ahead..Then its for you

This is a classic Damn Interesting article.

Speaking personally, I consider sleep as a chore to be postponed for as long as possible. But sleepiness is a tenacious, unrelenting adversary, and drowsiness can have all the compassion of a 2×4 to the back of the head. I find it vaguely unsettling that every day, we humans experience the irresistible compulsion to pass out, and then remain unconscious for hours upon hours. We simply accept this involuntary stupor as natural when we really ought to be mortified.

All told, we humans spend about one third of our lives lying very still with our eyes closed. That means if you live to ninety years of age, you'll have slept through thirty years of your life. What a waste. But is it feasible to reclaim that part of your life by reducing or eliminating sleep, without unwanted side effects?A Ukrainian man named Fyodor Nesterchuk claims that he has not slept since the mid 1980s, but the medical community expresses strenuous doubts on this claim, suggesting the alternate explanation that perhaps Mr. Nesterchuk is a big fat liar.

There are plenty of chemical ways to keep sleep at bay, at least for a time… but the sleep debt must always be repaid, or the body and mind will suffer. Modafinil, a drug used to treat narcolepsy (a disorder causing involuntary sleep during normal waking hours), has been tested on normal individuals, and shown to remove a person's urge to sleep. It can also increase vigilance, which allows one to stay awake and active for several days without sleep, but like caffeine and other drugs, it only postpones the inevitable. The US military has conducted studies to test the benefits of Modafinil for soldiers.

It turns out that if one actively prevents sleep for a prolonged period of time, which some people have tried, severe side effects pile on rapidly. All symptoms increase in severity as new ones appear:

After missing one night of sleep, expect fatigue, reduced attention span and problems with short-term memory.

After missing 2 to 3 nights, one will also suffer poor coordination, muscle twitches, marked loss of concentration, impaired judgment, blurred vision, nausea, and slurring of speech. Often one will experience episodes of microsleep (briefly sleeping for a few seconds at a time, without being aware of it).

At about 4 to 5 days without sleep, expect extreme irritability, hallucinations, and delusional episodes.

After about 6 to 8 missed nights, add slowed speech, tremors in limb extremities, memory lapse, confusion concerning one's own identity, unusual behavior, and paranoia to the list.

After 9 to 11 nights without sleep, fragmented thinking occurs (beginning sentences without completing them), and prolonged episodes of unresponsive "conscious stupor."

The effects of full sleep deprivation in humans beyond eleven days have not been explored due to the health risks involved. Presumably, irreversible damage will soon follow, then death. This has been demonstrated in lab rats which died after being prevented from sleeping for two weeks. It is also evidenced by a very rare human brain disease called Fatal Familial Insomnia, where an adult individual slowly loses the ability to sleep, and the victims experience all of the above symptoms gradually over a few months. This disease eventually leads to dementia, permanent personality changes, motor paralysis, and ultimately death.

Apparently, lack of sleep causes all of these adverse effects because it causes brain damage. During a normal day, the brain is slightly damaged by the body's metabolism, and by free radicals. When one is asleep, the brain engages a repair center which slowly mends the tiny injuries, restoring the brain to its full potential. During the deepest phase of sleep, called REM, it is believed that the repair center itself is repaired. But the longer that sleep is prevented, the more damage one's brain accrues, and the more sleep one will require to repair it. Too much damage, and it becomes irreparable.

The longest recorded stint of deliberate sleeplessness was a science experiment by seventeen-year-old Randy Gardner in 1965. He managed to stay awake for 11 days (264 hours) without the use of stimulant drugs, though he did keep assistants on hand to prevent him from sleeping. By the end, he had experienced the full gamut of symptoms, including hallucinations and stupor, but he was able to suppress these symptoms while presiding over a press conference on the final day. Researchers then attached EEG monitors to his head as he went to sleep, which took less than four seconds. He awoke after sleeping for about 14 hours, and said that he felt fine.

Getting too little sleep in general can prevent the brain from being restored to 100% effectiveness, and can keep an individual at a perpetually reduced potential. As a consequence, the brain must work harder to accomplish the same amount of work, which is detrimental to efficiency. The brain also uses sleep as a time to sort, process, and catalog all of the information it has absorbed throughout the waking period, which is why memory is adversely effected by lack of sleep. Creativity also suffers because the brain builds creative associations from memories while slumbering. As if that weren't enough, the immune system will be weakened by insufficient sleep.

Interestingly, before the invention of the electric light bulb, the average person received nine of hours of sleep per night. The average night's sleep for a young American today is a bit over seven hours.I think I'll go to bed a little early tonight.

Courtesy: Damn Interesting

Reservation Farrago

I'm not going to talk about whether the reservation is right or wrong.I swear i don want to pen it down. But i concluded that if i read enuf news paper and saw the so called 24*7 news chennals, i have the maturity to post.

All of the national news paper or news channel covered the reservation problems. Can you accept it?

Yes.They covered even the sneezing of the people who were protesting against the reservation.

Every afternoon, not far from the anti-reservation protests, a small group staged a rally in favour of reservation. Calling themselves "Youth for Equal Opportunity", this motley crew of faculty members, doctors and students chose patient care over protests and staged a demonstration only during their lunch hours.

Did any of you see this protest?

When a few hundred students have amassed in any protest, that is the prime time coverage and banner headlines for all news channels and news papers.Definitely the people involved in these activities are just happened to be Upper caste and the protest is for nation's well being.

But when a group of people protest for their primary resources like water it is considered to be a traffic jam. After all a revenue officer is more than enough to solve the problems of these people. But prime minister should give appointment if the protest is done by elite groups.

If the government increases the fund to compensate the increasing number of seats, it is taken as extra burden for government not as a capital for improving india's brains. Is this what we are calling as social justice.

one of the bloggers wrote,

"All are equal but some are more equal! Extremism? Speaking of extremism, I guess you people must've heard about the bunch of IIT students who have proclaimed that they will commit suicide if the reservation policy is implemented. Moderatism doesnt seem to be working at all. So where are our Bhagat Singh, Rajdev and Sukhdev? Do we have to get suicidal to be heard?"

So your moderatism talks about improving the life of improved people not the socially discriminated. Will it give social justice?

I want to give more links that talk about pro reservation.Because you can find anti reservation talks at every corner.

If everybody thinks that Merit is based only on work and IQ then we are not human beings..
I would like to mention a kural here..

"அரம்போலும் கூர்மைய ரேனும் மரம்போல்வர்
மக்கள்பண்பு இல்லா தவர்."

Unfortunately, the narrow parameters of the reservation debate have ensured that reserved category students shall continue to fight accusations of inability and incompetence. "If you get into college through reservation and do badly, it's because you don't deserve to be here," remarks an OBC student. "And if you do well, then you are not truly backward'. It seems we are incompetent by definition."

Periyaar Muzhakkam
Dalit Murasu
Kuzhali
Dheemdharigida
Pudhiya Kaatru
Thamizmanam

Blurb for The Alchemist

I promised that I would make my own decisions.
I’m an adventurer, looking for treasure.
There must be a language that doesn’t depend on words.
Why ask more out of life?
It’s called the principle of favorability, beginner’s luck. It’s really stupendous idea to remember so many things. We do have lot of tumblers and plates in my home that are designated with their users name usually.

My sister and I used to fight for the things of the person whom we rate good to us.
We are the ounger ones in our families. All of our cousins are atleast 6 years elder than us. So their things will come to us after some time. That’s how my sister took ownership of meenakshi akka’s plate (She is my first cousin..She was using that plate for sometime) and our elder sister’s tumbler (Obviously a big tumbler).

Well..Let me come to memories. Whenever we fight for these, my mom will come up with a story behind that. That is always nice to hear. Even during this nadapaavi we heard some good old stories.

One more engrossing thing is the therukoothu. After a very loong time I happened to see vasanthi Naadaga mandra Naadagam. They perform the drama just for 3000 bucks. There are 13 artists. It is very hard swallow the reality. No wonder why these village arts diminishing day by day. There were large drama groups around kanchipuram. But now they say only 2 groups exist. One is the uthiramerur zone, Thirupulivanam village vasanthi group and cheyyar prakash group.

There is a fantastic person called Kannappa Thambiraan in a village called purisai.Click here to know about his Koothupattarai.

I thought of writing so many blogs with thses things. I should keep a note whenevr I cross an experience worth sharing.

Let me come to nadapaavi. I have already misseed 3 nadapaavi fests consecutively. So I thought this year I shd make it. But this year the festivel was not at its peak. Atleast 25 ppl will be there in my house during that day. But this year we just 5 of our family members. Because the next day is Thamizh puthaandu dhinam. Every year the exams get over by the time the chitrapournami (Fullmoon day in tamil month chittirai) comes. But this year the festivel is advanced to month panguni because of date clash during the Brammorchavam in Varatharaja perumal temple.

கடவுளின் மரணம்

An awesome short story by selvan.Did you ever imagine that GOD commited suicide because he is no longer able to solve world's problems or human's problems.Just click here to read more about this.

Happy ugadhi to all of you..if not to me atleast..naanum kannada theriyaadha kanndiga aagitaenunga...

Voyage de fève

We plunge ourselves into the chikmagalur resort. Wished and wishing him a very happy birthday. We should have a person like him with us. Otherwise things will be very much banal. We had a very good get together yesterday. It has been month’s time we met like these. I don’t even remember actually.

So that’s all. Had a nice lunch at Hotel Imperial.(adhe sambar rice dhan. Namakellam adhan othu varum).Spent some time in Garuda mall. That’s where we went to that so-called “The Scary House”.

The scary house..The scariness is not there in the name atleast. It was almost a child’s play. I was serioualy thinking when I saw a couple coming out shrieking. Anyway, I led the way (enakku thanae theriyum naanga enna naenachomnu). But there was nothing that could make me afraid. Not even a single bit of stone.

Their process is simple. Shouting all along the way, make every room dark, have some skeletons (some of them moving, Idhellam vitlaachaarya padathlayae naanga paathutomnga.ayyo ayyo) on the way, and at the end two girls with ghost makeup. I remembered the muraimaaman film. They are doing very good business. Its high time I need to take some decisions instead of planning.

It’s just those two hours. Then I started reading book and watched TV for some time (().
Eventually I’m increasing the dose of the tablet. From Valance 250 mg to Valance 500 mg.

I completed veronika decides to die and just started Eleven minutes. There were some good defns for mad n reality in veronika decides to die. I feel it doesn’t have the depth as Alchemist.

So the trip starts again to kanchipuram today. Let me have some fun there. I missed shivaraathiri festivel like anything. But we need to compromise on those things sometimes. We used to do the “Irandaam kaala Poojai” in our village kailaasanaathar Temple. The next day is Mayaana kollai. The two days are really worth to spend at temple.

நாலு விஷயம் - It is always awe-inspiring to read when someone explores something which you very much aware of but not aware of that kind of exploration. We have a well in my house. Ofcourse it is (wont take much time to put WAS) there in many of our village houses. But no one could have imagined comparing it with a woman.

I read SR's article on Nallathangaal's well. He went on to say that many of our villages have those kinds of wells. I never imagined that truth. Yes we do have a well of that kind in our village. We call it as Nadapaavi well. That’s the painful truth to know. My mom used to lament about her best friend's suicide. She killed herself by jumping into that well. There were more incidents like that. There was a time in our village that outsiders refuse to give daughters to our village grooms. I never saw such a suicide (Thank GOD). But I know an incident that involves a death of a college lecturer. But it is an accident.

That well is a religious and inscrutable one. It has a mandapa of 4 stands under earth. It was distanced from our village atleast 1 km from houses. Women who had quarrel with their ppl took it as an advantage. So we do have some horrifying stories.

Every year varadharaja perumal from kanchipuram come to our village and have His Poojas both in the Sanjeevarayar Temple and in That well on Chitra pournami (Fullmoon day on tamil month Chittirai) day. That fiesta name is called Nadapavai.

Does any of u of see any woman who has the habit of speaking to well whenever they have problems and see they wash their face in that well water to feel its chillness? Do any of you can compare a Well with a woman? I guess more than 90% of the women who reads this post (Hoping) wont see a beauty of a well might missed a good pal.

Now I feel am missing my home well a lot. My sister and I used to have shifts to take water from our well. It is too tough to know that I missed her (why not, when it is compared to women).

P.S. Japanese used to ask their well to cure their loved ones when they suffered from a disease. They consider it as God’s hear.

Fete and confection (பண்டிகையும் பட்சணமும்)

It could have been a still more good pongal. Its presence blow over year by year. We can say not only pongal but other festivals too. There is no fascinating thing on these days. Don’t tell me “Indhiya tholaikaatchigalil mudhal murayaaga” and stuff like that.It went like a very ordinary day.

Let me talk something relevent to heading. I was supposed to start from home by 8.30 to catch my bus. My mom was doing culinary till 6.30.I asked her; can’t you reduce the number of dishes? My mom said, it’s already less. I was bedazed to a great extent. But perhaps I forget about my old days fetes. We ppl have specific sweets for fetes. Let me tell abt my home sweets. The first festvel is thiruvaadhirai or pongal in a english year. But thiruvaadhirai might come at the end of December also. That day we used to have thiruvaadhirai kali. I remember one phrase abt that, “Thiruvaadhirai Uruvaa kali”. I really don’t know the meaning.

The next one is our own pongal. The first day we used to have Venn (plain) pongal, sarkarai (Sweet) pongal. The second day is Maatu Pongal.Till we owned a cow we used to give her sweets. So mom used to prepare some sweet rice powder for her. Then the kozhukattai and urundai work starts. We used to make the rice powder by hand with the help of Ural and Ulakkai. Now it is not used for the purpose it is intended. Mom used to make a agal vilakku from the rice powder. Then greens, potato and some other will get added to the list. The reason for greens and potato is my grandpa liked them.At the end I and my sister will search for a place in the banana leaf to put some of the dishes.

The next big fete is Shivaraathiri. The main dish is Sundal, Urundai and Kozhukattai. We used to go to Kailaasanaahar temple at 9 and will be back around 1.The next day our villege Parvatha Raja Kula ppl having Mayaana kollai festvel of Sri Angaala parameswari. This festvel makes me afraid some times during my childhood.

The next one is Krishna Jayanthi or Gokulaashtami. We have some good cuisine art here.We have seedai.IT is hard and sweet.I used to put it in my trousers pocket during my school days(Ofcourse in both the pockets). The great entertainer.

The next big one is Vinayakar Chaturti. There we go..The special kozhukattai. The name is Erukangaa Kozhukattai. My mom told me a great story of this great sweet. Indeed a great sweet.

Diwali comes with a big bag. We have lot to eat and taste. You can never imagine the variety of vadais. The specail sweet is Karachi vathal (that’s how we used to call). The other one is Soyaam. But my mom doesn’t prepare it. We have the former and adhirasams. The whole of the family and the relations used to exchange only adhirasams. We were there to taste all. The hard vadais (Milagu vadai, Ottai vadai or Thattadai or watever u name it) and murukkus are also the regular ones during diwali. It will take atleast 10 days to finish them.

Kaarthigai Deepam, The nice fete indeed. We have Aval urundai here.We never miss to make a sweet during festival, isn’t it?I feel this fete is a real religious one.You can’t beat the light created by those days.Someone has to take a satellite picture on this day.

I missed some ubiquitous things like vadas and paayasam. I never saw a festivel without them in my home from Amaavaasai to pongal and diwali.

Stumble Upon!i!

I got to experience a new thing in fire fox.”Stumble Upon”.It nice to see several new articles and interesting facts. It steals my time to a great extent(But I’m really working hard u know).IT comes with firefox 1.5

Goto http://www.mozilla.org/ for more details.

The next thing. This week I completed a novel at work. The Alchemist.I should buy a hardcopy for sure.It has so many poetic verses.I should really search for Paulo coelho’s works. So since december I have completed GOAL,Oru yogi yin suyasaridham The Alchemist and The Aladdin Factor (I shd have a party).

The next simple technology of Google is http://www.orkut.com/
Oh man…they have communities for Idly sambar and vada. I went to my akka’s home on Wednesday morning. I happened to be the tution master for my nephew (ayyo ayyo) on that day. The sad part is he got fever the very next day (thanks to my inner master voice..i can also have inner voice).I need to know his maths score n will see my capability for that profession.

The next day I went to our own lillypond market at central. Got 2 books at good rate, Jeffrey Archer’s ‘False Impression’ and sheldon’s ‘The other side of me’. Then went to iyanavaram mental hospital.wait wait. Then I n my cousin went to Landmark. She is working as a assitant surgeon there in the hospital. I know some of her patients’ name and their character too. My cousin is also a good narrator (Ennoda cousin aachae). I promised that I would make reading as her habit. So gave her one book. I took “Oru Yogiyin Suya saridham”. It’s a Tamil translation of “Autobiography of a Yogi”. Then measured every inch of Poombugaar. Then went to my sister’s house at 10 after dropped my cousin at her venue.

Friday, This is kind of special day. I went to abirami mall with my new friends. It’s my bad idea, which leads to my solitude feeling. That’s bad part of it. There was definite desperation despite their presence. After the film I came to my comfortable zone.I and my cousin(The same person) went to broadway and we joined my sister, dad n nephew. We went to our own chennai's one of the great place. Old Washermenpet. You don see any chairs to sit down. But I never imagine that place. That’s really awesome place to do purchasing of cloths. But you need to be a clever customer; I mean you should be good at bargaining.

Then Saturday and Sunday I was at my home. I thought about the great locution.,Whereever we go our first step starts from our doorstep. The whole world starts from my doorstep for me.So all the international, interstate and intrastate roads are branches to my home.Hahahaha.Thanks to S.Ramakrishnan.Waiting with great expectation for his “Daesaanthri” series.I wish I could stop buying vikatan.

"WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR"

An Elysian Lieu

Nowadays it is common that somebody asks me which part of tamilnadu u r from...i say "Kanchipuram".Their replies go like these,

"You are blessed"
"You are Lucky"
"Holy Man(??????)"

3 years back, when i was in college, My faculty asked the same, after my answer he asked what is famous in ur town..I told temples n Aacharyaas. He is christian. He asked suddenly don u tell C.N.Annadurai?I was bluffing. But certainly kanchipuram is still remembered for its divine spirit. It has a myriad(don tell me you can count..you defn can)of temples, thanks to pallavas, devaraayars and cholas.
See these...

<img style="FLOAT: left; At the age of 21, he became the first Indian trainee at the Charted Bank in London. Thereafter he qualified for the Bar at Middle Temple in England and became a "Bar-at-Law' to be cherished by the citizens of Chettinad. Adventurous in nature he was awarded a pilot certificate at Croydon, London. With honorary doctorate degrees conferred upon him by both Madras and Annamalai Universities his passion for excellence knew no bounds. His stellar record as a business entrepreneur was acknowledged by the British Government when he was knighted in 1945 at the age of 37. He renounced the prestigous knighthood when India attained independence. The President of India conferred the distinction of Padma Bhushan upon him on Janaury 26, 1956. With in a span of 2 decades he demonstrated his versatility as a successful business tycon and an intrepid academician with a vision to change the mere scrub jungle of Karaikudi to an educational Mecca. When he passed away prematurely at the age of 48, Dr. Alagappa Chettiar has redefined the meaning of philanthropy and contributed more to the betterment of education in Tamil Nadu than any other person of eminence has done until then.

He launched his career of pioneering in textiles. He was business savvy and a model employer. His uncanny ability to ride the waves on the crest of the Stock Market became legendary and turned out to be a kingpin of the Bombay Stock Exchange. Companies such as Jupiter General Insurance, East and West Insurance, Colaba Land and Mills Company, the glitzy Ritz Hotel, the West End Hotel in Bombay soon came into his domain of management. He had an entourage of investors who followed him with his investments. He practised then, what the Harvard business School preaches today - diversification of portifolios with rubber plantations in Malaya, Tin Mines in Burma, Textile Mills in Kerala, Insurance companies in Calcutta, Hotels in Bombay, Theatres in Madras, a flourishing stock broking company and a private airlines and has been referred to as the unsung business maharajah of South India in the thirties and forties.

He harboured a firm conviction that education is an absolute must for a human being to become productive, wholesome and humane

His business interests were however short lived as he changed his focus to education. He harboured a firm conviction that education is an absolute must for a human being to become productive, wholesome and humane. With the conferment of the Independence for India, a pressing need was felt all over the country to establish infrastructure for higher education. In 1947 at the Dr. Annie Besant centenary celebrations, he answered the call for call for industrialists to help educate India by spontaneously offering to start an Arts College in Karaikudi. His generous donations led to the establishment of a string of educational institutions that included the Alagappa Teacher's College, the Physical Education College, the Alagappa Polytechnic and the Alagappa Engineering College which formed the basis for the establishment of the Alagappa University in 1985 by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

To bring prominence to the educational instsitutions, he had the vision to convince Prime Minister Nehru to house one of the Government's National Research Institutes in the heart of the Alagappa campus. As Dr. Radhakrishnan, the Vice-President of India surmised at the opening of the Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRL) on 14th January, 1953. "The magnificient gift of 3000 acres of land and fifteen lakhs of rupees by Dr. Alagappa Chettiar helped the Government of India to select Karaikudi as the seat of Electro Chemical Research Institute. Being a businessman himself, Dr. Alagappa Chettiar is aware of the industrial possibilities of our country and the need for scientific, technical and technological education and in his lifetime he has built a monument for himself you have only to look around."

Dr.Alagappa Chettiar had a passion for extravagance and grandeur. It was with this trait that he went to celebrate the wedding of his daughter, which was nothing short a fairy tale wedding. On 10th September 1943, the marriage of Umayal with Ramanathan was celebrated with pomp and splendor. With open invitations to the inhabitants of Chettinad thousands lined the streets and dignitaries included the rulers of Princely states like Mysore, Travancore and Pudukottai. The bride and groom seated in a chariot draped with flowers were in the midst of more than 20,000 people assembled to witness the festivities. Specially chartered trains and buses piled guests from various parts of Madras Presidency to the venue of the marriage at Kottaiyur. The wedding celebrations were interlaced with festive entertainment features - the famous exponents of Carnatic music such as G.N.Balasubramaniam, M.S.Subbulakshmi, M.M.Dhandapani Desigar and M.K.Thiagaraja Bhagavadar as they regaled the crowd with their concerts. (Anyhow, Periyar movement wants marriages peformed in a simple and secular manner)

He was a patriot to the core. Apart from actively working with Mahatma Gandhi in supporting the Satyagraha movement, he helped the Government of India by lending his fleet of Aircrafts from his own Jupiter Airways for lifting troops during Hyderabad's integration. He never flinched or swerved, even when some of his planes crashed in their mission.

The life of Alagappa Chettiar, was a saga of suffering and achievemnt. As he solemnly stated in a speech during his last days "between the Scylla of th skin trouble and the Charlybdis of my bone affliction and the doubtful eye in between, I am just wondering whether life has really any future for me. My only prayer and hope is that the institutions that I have been privileged to start at Karaikudi may continue to be good centres of learning for years shedding sweetness and light to the thousands that come to the campus for their studies."

Perhaps his crowning piece of philanthropy was giving away his own palatial residence in Kottaiyur to found the Women's College
At the tender age of 48, in the midst of single handedly revolutionising his native place and changing the course of histsory, he succumbed to his illness. Perhaps his crowning piece of philanthropy was giving away his own palatial residence in Kottaiyur to found the Women's College. As Rajaji remarked. "Dr.Alagappa Chettiar has given away freely. Students should develop that qualilty namely, giving money earned for charity. Here is a book of life and students can learn from him how one can give to good cause, cultivate courage and emulate the spirit of Dr. Alagappa Chettiar."

Coinciding with the commemoration of the silver jubilee celebrations of Anna University in Chennai, a statue was unveiled to honour Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. It was with the able guidance and inspiration from his mentor, Dr.A.Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University that he made a munificent contribution of 5 lakh of rupees in 1944 to establish a College of Technology in Guindy to introduce novel faculties such as Chemical, Leather and Textile Engineering to Madras University. Alumni of this institution have over the past five decades, earned international repute and have made the Alagappa College of Technolgy world renowned.

Enga Mudhalaali

Lawrence J. At nine months, he contracted pneumonia, and his unmarried 19 year-old mother gave him to her great aunt and uncle to raise. Lawrence was raised in a two-bedroom apartment on the South Side of Chicago. Until he was twelve years old he did not know that he was adopted. His great uncle and adoptive father had lost his real estate business in the Great Depression and made a modest living as an auditor for the public housing authority. As a boy, Larry Ellison showed an independent, rebellious streak and often clashed with his adoptive father. He showed a strong aptitude for math and science, and was named science student of the year at the University of Illinois. During the final exams in his second year, Ellison's adoptive mother die, and he dropped out of school. He enrolled at the University of Chicago the following fall, but dropped out after the first semester. his father was now convinced he would never make anything of himself, but Ellison had learned the rudiments of computer programming in Chicago and took this skill with him to Berkeley, California, arriving with just enough money for fast food and a few tanks of gas.

For the next eight years he bounced from job to job, working as a technician for Fireman's Fund, Wells Fargo bank and began working as a programmer with large databases at Ampex. At Ampex he built a large database for the CIA, code name: Oracle.

In 1977, Ellison and his former supervisor from Ampex, Robert Miner, founded Software Development Labs. They supported themselves by consulting for an assortment of corporate clients, when Ellison read a paper called "A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks" by E. F Codd, describing a concept Codd had developed at IBM. IBM had seen no commercial potential in the concept of a Structured Query Language (SQL), but Ellison and his partner did. They created a database program compatible with both mainframe and desktop computer systems, renamed their company Oracle, and found their first customers for the database program, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the CIA. In 1980, Oracle had only eight employees, and revenues were less than $1 million, but the following year, IBM itself adopted Oracle's SQL for its mainframe systems and for the next seven years, Oracle's sales doubled every year. The million dollar company was becoming a billion dollar company.

Oracle went public in 1986, raising $31.5 million with its initial public offering, but the firm's zealous young staff for the rapidly expanding firm habitually overstated revenues, and in 1990 the company posted its first losses. Oracle's market capitalization fell by 80 percent and the company appeared to be on the verge of bankruptcy. Ellison bit the bullet and replaced much of the original senior staff with more experienced managers. For the first time, he delegated the management side of the business to professionals, and channeled his own energies into product development. The newest version of the database program was a solid success and in only two years the company's stock had regained much of its previous value.

Even as Oracle's fortunes rose again, Ellison suffered a series of personal mishaps. Long an enthusiast of many sports and outdoor activities, in rapid succession Ellison suffered serious injuries while body surfing and mountain biking. Ellison survived major surgery, and continued to race his 78-foot yacht and practice aerobatics in his private jet.

Oracle's fortunes continued to rise throughout the 1990s. America's banks, airlines, automobile companies and retail giants all depend on Oracle's database programs. Oracle has benefited hugely from the growth of electronic commerce; its net profits increased by 76 percent in a single quarter of the year 2000. As the stocks of other high tech companies fluctuated wildly, Oracle held its value, and its largest shareholder, founder and CEO Larry Ellison, had come very close to a long-cherished goal, surpassing Microsoft's Bill Gates to become the richest man in the world.
<img width='1' height='1' daughter's name.

Adobe - This came from name of the river Adobe Creek that ran behind the house of founder John Warnock.

Apple Computers - It was the favorite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 o'clock.

CISCO - It is not an acronym as popularly believed. It is short for San Francisco

Compaq - This name was formed by using COMp, for computer, and PAQ to denote a small integral object.

Corel - The name was derived from the founder's name Dr.Michael Cowpland. It stands for COwpland REsearch Laboratory.

Google - The name started as a joke boasting about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol', a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders - Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google'.

Hotmail - Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters "html" - the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective uppercasing.

Hewlett Packard - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.

Intel - Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company 'Moore Noyce' but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

Microsoft - Coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, the '-' was removed later on

Motorola - Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time was called Victrola.

ORACLE - Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The code name for the project was called Oracle (the CIA saw this as the system to give answers to all questions or something such). The project was designed to help use the newly written SQL code by IBM. The project eventually was terminated but Larry and Bob decided to finish what they started and bring it to the world. They kept the name Oracle and created the RDBMS engine. Later they kept the same name for the company.

Sony - It originated from the Latin word 'sonus' meaning sound, and 'sonny' a slang used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.

SUN - Founded by 4 Stanford University buddies, SUN is the acronym for Stanford University Network. Andreas Bechtolsheim built a microcomputer; Vinod Khosla recruited him and Scot t McNealy to manufacture computers based on it, and Bill Joy to develop a UNIX-based OS for the computer.

Yahoo! - The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book 'Gulliver's Travels'. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos.

..Hey I'm not sure abt the genuineness of this information..

Mahendran

The man who gave a perfect classic film to tamil industry....He tells that it is from pudhumaipithan's creation. But actually he took just 2 characters from the novel and painted his own art.. <img style="DISPLAY: block; system. There is a disceptation about the tenth planet.Let us leave that for the time being. The nine planets are Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Most of the names are came from romanian and greek eposes.Venus is the angel of beauty(namakku rendumae onnudhan) and Mars is the GOD of war.Our very own Earth came from both old english and german. The roman culture and epics spread across the europe and even in US.So they turned out as names of planets.Fundamentally roman and greeak people treated the objects which are in the sky during the night time as gods.

There were some contestations for Uranus and Neptune.William Hershal discovered Uranus and he wanted to name after his king George III and named the planet as "Georgium Sidus".But some astronomers named it as "Hershal".Again another astronomer changed the name to Uranus, a romanian epic character name.Neptune was discovered by John Gouch adams and Urbain Jean Joseph Leverrier.Leverrier wanted his name to be given to the planet. But atlast Neptune came.

Pluto was discovered during 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh at Lowell Observatory. He named it as Lowell.People started to call it as they want(Osiris, Bacchus, Apollo and Erubus).Newyork Times called it as Minerva.A 11 year old girl called Venetia Burney from oxford town(England) called it as Pluto(God of the Underworld).

During these times we were fighting for our independence. We have temples for them in our own tamilnadu:-)But we also have sun and moon as planet(koal) but left Earth. So you can match our planets with the solar system planets when you visit navagraga temples :-))

An Epitome of Ruined Politics

Water scarcity in tamilnadu is no longer an unusual thing, thanks to dravidian parties.Karnataka doesn't mind the words of either the Cauvery tribunal or the supreme court. As manishankar aiyer tells it always behaves in default mind.It allows the extra water to flow rather when tamilnadu requires(especially for kuruvai saagubadi). So for the last few years tamilnadu is acting as a way to dispose karnataka's extra waters.

Nature plays its part.kerala and karnataka gets 3015 mm of average rain per year but tamilnadu gets 981 mm.But the agriculture land which depends on cauvery in kerala is 3.5%,karnataka is 42.2% and in tamilnadu 54.3%.Let us look back.Till 1971 tamilnadu had 28.2 lakhs acres of agriculture land, karnataka 6.68 lakhs acres and kerala 6300 acres. But now it is history.

The first agreement on cauvery was signed during 1924.Karnataka started building dams during 1965 by telling that the agreement is going to expire during 1974.Before tamilnadu politicians woke up they built 5 dams.Ofcourse there were 30 rounds of discussion.

Now karnataka has 19.2 lakhs of agriculture land.It is growing towards 25 lakhs acres.During 1991 the cauvery tribunal ordered that Karnataka should not increase its agriculture land beyond 11.2 lakhs acres. It also ordered to release 205 TMC water. So hereafter the tamilnadu farmers must rely only on tamilnadu rain. There are some people who are looking into constructing dams(kadhavanai) across kollidam. They reviewed and sent the papers to tamilnadu government and they are there in the tamilnadu secretariate(might be having a good sleep).

The loss incurred due to kuruvai crop estimated around 800 crores not including the losses due to late start of samba. The hydel power plants(mattur(old and new),Chokanoor,Nochipettai,Gudhiraikaalmedu and Ooraatchikottai) are idle.In the whole world none of the river crises existed for this number of (35) years. So politics still playing on it.

No one notices about paalaru. It helped 4 lakhs acres in tamilnadu to do agriculture. But karnataka built a dam at paethamangalam. The interesting story is about 6 years back during Mr.Karunanidhi period several bridges are built on paalaru due to dangerous water flow during rainy season.I have never seen a waterflow after they have built the bridges.

"Aatru paerukattru adichudum naalilum ootru paerukaedutha Cauvery"

nalla mudhumozhiyaaga pragaasamaana vaaippulladhu.

Tamilnadu UPA started its 2006 assembly election campaign. So cauvery going to fetch more votes than water.
<img width='1' height='1' mittai)in my bag.But the moment my father left me in the school i was feeling like sitting in a so called hell.It was a very strange experince. But as the days rolls i started to feel at home.Ofcourse our Gnanaambaal teacher allowed us to sleep during afternoons.

2m-vaguppil Dhanalakshmi teacher. I never saw her with that much angry. En pakkathla irukra payyana pottu andha adi adichaanga. Almost i started to cry.During my 3rd standard we had 2 teachers for the first time.Jayalakshmi teacher(Students know her as 3ang class teacher) and thadavaraayan sir.He was such a great orthodontist.Kathi indri ratham indri chalkalayae palla eduthuduvaar. He is the person who wrote my name in english for the first time.

4mppu(south tamilnadu slang) shanmugam vaathiyaar. An epitome of village vaathiyaars. His favourite quote was "padinna padikaadha ettu idly kinnam sambar na nalla saapduviyae". We (not all) used to go to his home daily at 11.00 to bring coffee for him. These are the days i started playing cricket and mudhugupuncture (was such a nice game). You have to strike other person with the ball (rubber ball). I remember i got lot of punctures from nathakollai (a nearby village) radhakrishnan.

During my 5th standard we are the dadas of school. We had kadhirvel sir(our headmaster) and Purushothaman(we used to call ourselves as purushoth vaathiyaar). We didnot have any interesting periods those days.enakkum naatar thaeru chandrukum adikadi sandai varum avlo dhan..Most of the times i was in the winner's podium.

The very good friends i have from my elementary schools are ilayaraja,Gnanavel, keaseven and yuvaraj.<div contradicts on BJP's ideology. All parties, for that matter even countries have changes or revolutions(they might say) in their ideologies.

Congress now very much stick to their privatization and foreign investments..But Gandhiji started campaigning for villege and handicraft industries. Then after independence Nehru Slightely deviated and started very big industries and industry institutions(He quoted industries as big temples to bring all indians together). His daughter Indhra gandhi nationalised the banks..Finally they are into privatizaton..
<br
